When it comes to running, walking, hiking or doing aerobics, fitness buffs will spend a considerable amount of time and money to get the right shoe with the right fit. Although CrossFit is just as much a fitness discipline as the previous examples, there does not seem to be as wide of a selection of CrossFit shoes on the market as there are for the other more popular fitness disciplines. This may be because many that get into CrossFit are also into other aspects of fitness, and feel that wearing their running or walking shoes for CrossFit should be sufficient. This is certainly not the case. CrossFit is quite demanding and having the right shoe can improve performance and results. One of the more popular shoes among CrossFit fans is the Inov8 F-Lite 195 (please note, there’s the “Classic” without rope climbing protection and the standard with rope climbing protection). It is not only an excellent CrossFit shoe; it is a preferred natural running shoe as well. It is available in a wide array of colors and sizes, and is priced well for the quality also.
Primary Shoe Function
The Inov8 F-Lite 195 shoe was designed for and geared specifically towards the minimalist runner. It helps develop a natural running style with minimal separation between the foot and the road or pavement beneath. With that said, this shoe has recently made a smooth transition into the CrossFit world. Its form fit around the foot and combination of flexibility, stability and durability make it the ideal choice for grueling, rapidly evolving CrossFit workouts and weightlifting sessions alike. With this shoe, exercises such as rope climbing are much easier thanks to the gripping power of the sole. The same feature makes the shoe just as attractive to those that regularly compete in road races.
The Inov-8 F-Lite 195 is one of the lightest shoes on the market, coming in at just under 7 ounces or less than half a pound. It has a mesh lining for increased breath-ability and a flat, heavily treaded heel and sole for supreme stability. This model has a drop of only 3 mm, compared to an average ratio of up to 15 mm in your standard running shoes. The low profile of the shoe encourages solid, balanced strikes each time your foot hits the ground. This leads to strengthened muscles and tendons from your feet all the way up to the calf area.
The shoe’s sole feature is manufactured of a sticky compound that many Cross Fitters find attractive, and one that is not common in many other fitness shoes. It helps keep the foot in place while performing quick, explosive moves, especially on sweaty floors inside hot CrossFit box. The F-Lite 195’s fit is also top notch. The shoe was created to closely mimic the foot’s shape and features a TPU lacing system. These features ensure that the foot will remain in place during activity, preventing soreness and unwanted blisters. The fast drying mesh that makes up the majority of the shoe is also key in keeping blisters at bay and the foot comfortable during a long, sweaty workout.
When taking into account that the Inov-8 F-Lite 195 is a shoe that can be used for CrossFit, running and weightlifting, it is quite a bargain retailing at about $120. This likely explains why it has received some of the highest reviews when compared to others on the market and is a favorite among trail runner, road runners, adventure racers, and CrossFitters alike.
- A very versatile shoe that improves performance doing squats, box jumps, rope climbs, lifting and running.
- The sole has a flex zone perfectly positioned for comfort.
- Easily cross over from being worn in a gym to a long trail run.
- Durability is occasionally suspect.
I typically don’t buy shoes for one activity. I like to do different types of exercise and prefer to save money by buying one shoe that I can wear across the board. After hearing a Cross Fit coach at my gym rave about the Inov-8 F-Lite 195, I decided to give them a shot. I have to say that it was worth every penny. I have enough arch support for running, yet they’re also comfortable, light and low profile enough for my Cross Fit workouts.
I’m on my second pair of Inov-8 F-Lite 195 and I like these even more than my first pair. It is so versatile and I don’t have to change shoes from one activity to the other. I can go from my long run to my afternoon WOD and my evening weight session without having to carry an extra duffel bag for shoes alone.
